Our Story

For over 121 years, German Plumbing Heating and Cooling has been a cornerstone of the Poweshiek County community. Founded in 1898 by Phillip German, our story began with the installation and service of windmills and water systems, a testament to his commitment to providing reliable solutions for the region's agricultural needs. Phillip's legacy lives on in the windmills that still dot the landscape, bearing his name as a reminder of his dedication to quality craftsmanship.

The business transitioned to the next generation in 1927 when Phillip's son, George German, and his wife Fidelia, took over, renaming it "Farm Water Supply." They expanded the services to encompass pumps, hydrants, and trenching projects, catering to the evolving needs of the farming community. Fidelia's entrepreneurial spirit shone through her side business supplying portable whirlpools for bathtubs, demonstrating an early understanding of customer desires beyond the traditional farm sector.

In 1963, George and Fidelia passed the torch to their son Larry and his wife, Donna. They kept the name "Farm Water Supply" until 1986, strategically pivoting the company's focus to encompass a broader spectrum of services, including residential and commercial plumbing and heating sales, installation, and service.

Today, the company proudly stands as German Plumbing Heating and Cooling, Inc., owned and operated by the fourth generation, Scott and Randy German, who purchased the business in 2000.
